On 18-20 October premier of Dance Drama “Padmini” was celebrated in Theater School of Dramatic arts. This theatre is situated near metro Sukhrivskaya. This dance drama is unique and first of its type in the history of Russia. Earlier in 1960’s Ramayana was staged where Mr. Gennady Pechnikov played the role of Ram, the hero of the epic. It was a drama presented by Russian artists; approach to the subject was very firmed and restricted to the dramatic presentation. Surprisingly after Ramayana in Russian federation nobody thought anything to create on the theme of India. [/img]
In this context Padmini differs from Ramayana. Padmini is a musical where one can see the actors, dancers and singers and musician live during play. Although the background music is based on Indian Rags and Taals (Indian Rhythmic system) and most of the instruments are specially brought from India to give Indian atmosphere in play. Choir of the theatre (18 singers), 10 musician, 5 dancers, 5 actors are active on stage all the time. Behind stage about 20 technicians, Light and sound director, Costume designer, makeup man is part of the drama. In the history of Russia never been such effort.
Idea and concept of the dance drama goes to Guru Ashvani Nigam. Vera Lobovskaya, Svetlana Nigam Svetlana Anistratova and Alexander Lapteii together wrote and edit the story and dialogues. Svetlana Anistratova commanded the Choir while Guru Ashvani Nigam gave them knowledge of Indian singing material. Two years of regular hard work Choir was ready to perform Indian singing on stage.
